Our Colorful History

Our Past

In the mid 1800's plans for a home for seniors were on the records and in the hearts of Masons and Stars of Minnesota. It was not a miracle that gave birth to the plans but rather the generosity and wisdom of visionaries who dreamed of a home like no other. Hard work and timing were important. The Home was incorporated in 1906. Development began immediately to build a sizable endowment that would help purchase a location and produce a guaranteed income into perpetuity. In 1918 the 255-acre summer home of Marion Savage (owner of the famous pacer race horse DAN PATCH) was purchased in 1918 by the Minnesota Masonic Fraternity for $55,000, and made ready for the first resident who arrived in 1920.

The first Masonic Home was a working farmstead. Reconstruction and additions over the years increased capacity for modern services and programs but the grounds never lost the beauty of the original location.

In 1999 MMH Bloomington merged with North Ridge Care Center of New Hope. This privately-owned, impressive and well-respected facility had been caring for seniors since 1966, and at the time was the largest nursing home in the state of Minnesota. Becoming part of Minnesota Masonic Homes sizably increased the Homes’ ability to serve seniors and added the element of CareBreak (senior day program) to the continuum care concept.

Our Present

  • Two locations/One Mission – serving seniors at the Bloomington and New Hope locations
  • An admission policy that welcomes seniors 55 years of age and older, regardless of Masonic affiliation.
  • A continuum of care community from independent through skilled nursing care and including transitional care and rehabilitation services for short term stay.
  • An organization highly respected in the health care profession.
  • An enviable reputation of serving seniors since 1920 including several generations of the same families.
  • An active volunteer force donating thousands of hours of time each year.
